Looks like thsi is going to be an "EVENT"! Volunteer fire dept is going to come visit for standby and there will be a designated film crew. OMG! You would think this was a very unusual thing that is taking place. Although I don't remember when I have ever seen a grenade launcher fired in my lifetime yet!!! The really event is when I figure out how to make the grenades pop apart and disperse some powder on impact!!! Now that will be an event!! LMAO!!! We will get some photos and possibly some film of the firing. It is going to be next week and we are working on a day right now. More on the way!!!! LMAO!

Okay! Figured out the digital video camera and how to upload the video to my computer. Now I have to figure out how to load it to the forum when the event takes place. Oh well, that will be for the weekend after the gkids go to sleep!

I been reading the sheet that talks about the elevation and range settings and ran across a couple of interesting things while perusing! "Not fired at these angles and positions because time of flight is greater than delay time of grenade fuse (4.0 to 4.8 seconds)".

Also "when using the M7 auxiliary grenade cartridge, the rifle will NOT be fired from the shoulder. Serious injury to the firer may result". Damn, that is me!

"The M7 auxiliary cartridge will be used with the carbine only in an emergency when increased range is necessary. When used, firing should be from a sandbag rest or equivalent, with the butt of the stock turned sideways to avoid breakage."

You can bet your sweet bippy it will be fired form a sandbag or equivalent and not from my shoulder the first few times!!!!! LMAO!

Rather than loading it to the forum. Load it to YouTube. Then link the web page to the forum.

We may find out just how big and bad I am before this is over. I will tell you I am a natural born chicken! If it will fire a few times without exploding I might try to hold it and see what it will do! It will have to have one heck of a kick because there is a lot of me and I do not move easily!!! 6'5" and 285 and it is not all fat! More now than used to but not all!!!! LMAO! We will see. D-Day is getting closer!!!!

The gys I saw fireing those things leaned into the target, and they got pushed back. My Pop was 5' 11" and weighed 160lbs. I would bet he felt it. he said he used them at the Bulge on tanks and their support vehicles.

OKAY!!! Time for a range report!!! No pictures yet as I do not have the equipment here at the house to get the video loaded and post it. That stuff is at the office and I am already in trouble over the new M1 Garand addition from yesterday so I will not be at the office this weekend!! Get over it!! I will post them next week!! I did take the grenade launcher and my M1 to the acreage west of me yesterday afternoon. I got to tell you I had a blast!!! No pun intended! We first did some additional research to determine that the blanks I had from Cheaper than Dirt were actually the correct blanks for launching a grenade!!! Turns out the blanks were not quite as powerful a load as the military blanks used to launch these suckers but they do work! Once we determined the M1 would not blow up with the blanks we had to fire it with, we proceeded to the outside on the grass next to the ramp in front of his hanger. From the front of the ramp on the grass to the targets in front of the berm is exactly 220 yards. We verify this every few days with a laser to make sure soemone has not moved anything on us!!! He put on full body gear, not me, and placed the butt of said M1 on the ground at the front of the ramp and elevated it to 25 degrees. It was ready to go with a blank cartridge and the grenade (M31 inert practice grenade) in position pushed down covering all 6 rings! With the video rolling he fired it and it looked like a dud! The grenade only went a distance of 50 yards or so and there was not much of an arc to it! Fins got bent on the grenade and had to be straightened again. We went to the drawing board and reviewed the specs on the paper attachment that showed elevation and rings and distance to be lobbed again. Sure enough the distances were not quite enough due to the blanks not being the full load like military blanks! I am now considering haveing a 5 crimp die made to crimp the blanks closed so I can reload them and make them the right specs for launching this sucker. With that, we were very discouraged but still determined to launch the grenade a few more times even thougn we could not get the full range out of it!! I took it with the grenade on the end of the barrel for the next shot! I saw the recoil was not that much (Ha Ha!) when he had fired it so I put it on my shoulder and aimed it at about a 60 degree angle down range! I shot the thing and it kicks like a mule!!! Even with blanks that are not full loads for it the darn thing kicks worse than any 30-06 I have ever shot! My shoulder is sore this morning as I fired it four times to get a better feel for it!!! With the current blanks, it appears the best angle for distance is close to 50 degrees elevation and we got about 75 yards out of it! I can tell you it is a pretty sight to see that blue inert grenade arc and then nose down to the ground!!! The fins were not bent or damaged again because the grass was thick where we were shooting and the arc was greater, This caused the nose to take the brunt of the force when it hit and then it just falls over with little or no force when it comes to rest! This thing is a hoot to fire and I enjoyed it very much. That was the most fun I have had on a range in years!!! it is great to go out and shoot the guns and have a good time but it is unbelievable to take something lik this that very few people have seen let alone fired and fire it to see how it works. Amazing thing to do and one heck of a lot of fun. There were three of us there and his wife just wanted no part of it!!! LMAO! She stayed in the hanger behind a steel framed wall to watch because she knows both of us pretty well!!! GGG! Can't imagine why she would do that!!! The plan is to come up witih the adapter and a couple of pineapple grenades plus a couple of baseball grenades at the gun shows in the next month or so. Then we will have the correct and full loads for the launcher by that time. We willl go again when that happens and will take a full video presentation to show and brag about!!! This thing is a blast to play with and the arc with the grenade angling toward earth with the thud when it hits is just awesome. If I were in the vicinity of a grenade launched like this it would scare the crap out of me. I can just imagine how our enemies felt as they saw these things being lobbed in on them! Oh, one of the next things that we will do will also be to fix the grenades we launch where they will discharge a powder or firecracker type of load on impact. That is in the design stage at present and after the gun show in Fort Worth today my buddy tells me it will be ready to install!!! LMAO!! This is just great fun! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!!! I will get some photos and possibly the video posted early next week!!!

We are going to get the range up to about 200 yards. I am not sure I want to get it up much more than that!! The sob kicks pretty good because of teh weight on the end of the barrel and if you put much more powder in the cartridge to get a little higher pressure, it has to go somewhere and I am thinking that means my shoulder!!! I could not believe the kick from the darn thing. It was substantial. Now understand I am a small guy (NOT!) and I have shot soem pretty big stuff. I was expecting some recoil but not what I got, If it had full load blanks in it I am not sure I would have wanted to shoot it again. I am confidant the recoil is caused by the weight of the inert grenade! No doubt. I loaded the Garand up with a clip of eight and just shot very well with it. The recoil was from a normal 30-06 round in a good rifle, not a plastic cheap imitation! That darn grenade launcher just has my attention now. I will get much better at handling it!!! I will also come close to the original packing slip with the angles, rings and distance measurements before I quit. The other thing that will happen, even if I have to have it made, is the die to crimp the reloads. Have a friend in Lewisville, about 20 miles or so, that owns a machine shop and this guy is awesome!!! To look at hiim and talk with him you would think he could not pour pea out of a boot!! LMAO! He is one of the most intelligent CNC machine programmers operators I have ever seen!! Amazing what he can make one of them do. Had a nut that I needed for my son's M/C and it held the front forks. front suspension and front axle and wheel on. It has a lot of pressure on it. Nobody had one and nobody seemed tobe able to korder one for me either.
Went down to his shop, sat down and talked to him for 15 minutes or so. Showed him the old stripped out one and gave him the specs for the threads. He said 2 days and he would have to find some tool or something to be able to make it. He said he had one just didn't know where it was! He called me teh next morning and said come get it, it is ready. I go down to get it at lunch and it looks better than factory, fit like a glove and cost me less than the $ the dealer wanted if they could even order it!!! He is one of my favorites and all you have to do is say that you were told nobody but the factory could possible produce one of those! He takes that as a challenge! SO, he will be up to the challenge to make the crimping die!!! I just cannot wait for it all to come together! Atleast now I know it will work!

you're on the road to sucess good for you. If you think about full load shoulder launching, you better pad your shoulder and bite down hard on an atheletic mouth piece. It will break your teeth. I do a lot of machineing in the shop whre I work. Some of the engraveing presses are a hundred years old. You cant go out and buy parts for them anymore, dont even have prints for the parts. Some times I will make custom hot rod and motor cycle parts for a freind or two. It's fun working a block off steel or aluminum into a peice of art.
Heres a pic of a flywheel and a pinion and bull gear I machine from blanks this past winter.

You are right some of my machines that I use are just as old. This machine called a Bullard Horizontal boreing machine used to be belt driven back when they used steam. It was built at the turn of the 19th century. The transmision on top is out of a 1937 Studerbaker pickup truck.
