PostSubject: A question about sights   Thu Aug 26, 2010 1:16 pm

Hey guys,
I'm trying to feed my curiosity about the different sights on my 1911's and I hope you know more than I do (and I know nothing so it shouldn't be too hard ;-)).
My Kimbers have Meprolight Night Sights and I really like them but, my DW VBOB has the Heine Straight Eight sights and I wish it also had the Meprolights.
All I know so far is that there seem to be at least two style cuts onto which sights are mounted, Novak & Bomar. Can I buy sights with any cut I want or do the makers only do one type of mounting?
I know my questions sound funny but it's because of my ignorance about sights, Can you guys educate me?
The bottom line is that I want to put the Meprolight sights on my DW.

I almost forgot to ask if anybody has experience with the fiber optic front sights?
Thanks

Since the DW VBOB is a 1911 variant [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I would think that they do make night sights for it.

Maybe call them and ask. I did a search for it but came up empty. But that normal for me.

Had fiber optic once and did not like them. Don't work, IMHO, as well as they others. I much favor Meprolight. Look them up on the web and send an inquiry on their contact us button. they will respond, usually within a day and give you the exact info with no BS. It will be either we can do this and this is how or they just won't fit. I suspect they will work it is just knowing which ones are supposed to fit!

VV - Ever get the Meprolights? I may have to look into getting them for my new used Kimber Ultra. Just wondering if they took care of you or if you went another route!

AO,
I checked into the "Tactical Wedge Tritium Night Sights" that are stock on your new Ultra and the only difference between those and the standard Meprolights is a forward angle so you should be a happy camper!

Here's the link so you can see:

I have had one set of the Meprolittes! Loved them. I looked at the link adn those look pretty cool but I will reserve judgment until they are here and I have a chance to use them a while. I am not in the habit of just changing soemthing on a gun because something else looks cool or might be better! If they work well, I will stay with them. If they do not, I will change them in a heartbeat!!!

Thanks for the info VV! Pictures and report coming soon!! Oh, I will be on the range tomorrow and shooting the grenade launcher to see if I can get a little bit better video of it to upload and share!
