PostSubject: "Pistol Free Zones"   Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:32 pm

I think many of us have seen these "Pistol Free Zone" signs posted at schools, I know I do when I volunteer to pick up my grand kids from school occasionally.
What's not clear to me is if these signs really have any teeth in them. I know that when I go to firing ranges many of them have a "No Open Carry" policy posted at the entrance and being a privately owned businesses I guess that's OK.
But what's behind these "PFZ" signs? Besides the obvious intent to protect the lives of children and staff, after all we've seen some pretty horrific murders occur at schools over the last decade, what laws are being used to support these signs?
Please don't take me wrong, I support anything that will save lives but I also think our hand gun laws are in bad need of review so we can all get on the same page.

Our Public School System initiated something called "Zero Tolerance" some years ago and attached it to all their policies and we've seen the pretty ridiculous scenarios that have been the result of that effort. Zero tolerance just doesn't work, there will always be valid exceptions. To me these "PFZ" signs look to be another attempt by school boards to control their environment without regard for our 2nd Amendment rights.

Supporters of "Open Carry" here say that there are no laws to prohibit OC at our schools. Our States hand gun laws includes a list of places that CC is prohibited and schools are on this list. But open carry is a different animal and there in is where civilians & LE are confused and that can lead to many sticky situations.

To clarify I should say that MI is a shall issue state and many people carry concealed and it seems to me that this is what's being battered around by all our politicians. Open carry is just the result of being a shall issue state.

So I ask you, do you really understand the laws in your state about where you can OC & CC?

I know where I can and can't carry, but not necessarily the full reason of why.
You are right about the schools, and as we all know, schools aren't the only PFZ where terrible things happen.
Reminds me of this video on YouTube

People don't seem to put two and two together. Look at England. They took peoples guns away from the law abiding subjects (since they are not citizens in that country) and gun crimes went up 500% and all other crimes even worse.
Only recently did the police get permission from the government to start carrying guns again, the cops there were getting their asses handed to them by the criminals.

Gun free zones do nothing but promote violence by thugs because they know that the people their have no good way of defending themselves.
But I think that is the way most of the government here in the US wants it.
The worse crime is the more the people depend on the government for help. Rather than depending on ourselves.
Personally I'll take a gun on my hip when a mugger or car jacker strikes over a cop that is no where around or will take who knows how long to get there because the police depts are so understaffed and over worked.

Let the government have their way, and we would see things more like this mans view.

Probably never which means your IMMORTAL

Because the anti gun crowd will never consider factual data over their own lies and fear mongering.

It must be tough to live in a world of denial of the facts. Don't ya' just wonder what the other segments of their lives are like? Too crazy for me.
