Ye haw, you are the first to post in the long gun area.

You don't win anything but way to go.

Never been a long gun person, I have a shot gun for home defense, and some 22lr for plinking, and had two 9mm carbines for a while but the rifle I have really wanted for years now is the Henry 357/38 lever action.

One day it will come home with me, One day. Just not today.

I have many long guns, I just picked up a remington model 700 in .270 win for deer and hog hunting. That thing is deadly... What a great rifle.. As far as tactical rifles I dont have any AR's.. I spent a while in the U S Army's Big Red One as a 11 B rifleman so I am a little tired of them as well as in the national Guard for 6 yrs. For home defese rifle I have a marlin camp rifle in .45 auto. It is small, handy and powerful at med to close range. I have 6 or 7 12 gauge shot guns too, with oo buck they work well. I is also very easy to use for the wife. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I am afraid to use a rifle for HD as my neighbors are too close. I use a .380 for that. My 15 yr old Daughter wants a 12 Gauge so I may be adding one of these soon.

I have a Mossberg Shotgun. I wish it was legal to have them aprox 30 inches over all. I would feel better about using it for home defense. I still do use it for HD but shorter would make easier to carry from room to room and the shorter barrel would give less advanced warning if it got to the corner before the rest of me.

I see that from time to time, not sure I want to put the money in to it, I think I'd rather get a new home defense pistol.
Just prefer pistols over long guns.

I know a shot gun has more power per shot and all, but they are not near as easy to maneuver around through the house. And I still like my pistols. Just not much on long guns.
But since I said that I have to say, I have always wanted to try skeet and trap

Ya might want to take a look at one of the double barrel "coach" shotguns for home defense.
A shotgun can be loaded with different shot sizes and powder loads. Which can help prevent "over penetration". I don't have one of the evil "black guns", just a couple of Winchester lever guns, a couple of .22 rifles, and one single solitairy shotgun. Have disposed of most of the long guns I had. Once had a pretty good collection, but found I could make a lot of money selling my single shot varmit rifles to mexican drug lords lol! . I've given some to my son's, son-in-laws, nephews, and to my grand daughter's husband. Some I've sold to friends and aquaintances over the years. So the once decent collection has dwindled down to almost nothing.

I used to think there was nothing finer than a handgun for home self defense. I then began to use an 870 at the SO and have become a fanatic about a shotgun for home self defense. There is nothing better anywhere at anytime for HD! Make sure the barrel is not shorter than 18" and it is the ultimate SD weapon! Less penetration and more delivery to the BG's. If you think a 44 Mag shoots fire from the end of the barrel, it will not even compare with the amount of flame that erupts from the end of the 870's barrel. Try it, you might like it!

Hand gun on the night stand and shot gun at the head board.
May be over kill but its the way I like it.

Better to be overkill and be prepared than to have a situation and not even be aware of what is going on! I personally think it is being prepared and taking care of one's own.

I'm not really paranoid yet but I do believe in being ready for whatever comes down. Much rather be ready than to have something go down and be trying to figure out what is taking place! Lack of planning will put you in a world of hurt quickly.

I have a Winchester Model 1912 12ga,with an 18" barrel. You can keep the trigger down and just keep pumping on this little pearl. I prefer aimed shots. When I'm feeling real mean, I'll brake out my double 10 ga.

Main thing with any HD or SD program is to know your limitations of which I have damn few! Understand what your process is, think about what your actions will be and never be afraid to put your plan into action. The delay or hesitation to react when put into the HD or SD mode will cost you more than you want to pay! Always be prepared for the worst and you will come through whatever the situation is with the best possible outcome for you and yours! I believe it and live it every day. Be aware and think. God gave you a perfectly good brain and it is capable of so much more than each of us use it for. Just use a small portion of it to think about what is going on around you and you already have more than half the battle won by knowing what is taking place. YOU HEARD IT HERE!!!!!
