PostSubject: Taurus 745!   Mon Dec 20, 2010 3:10 pm

I just do not know why Taurus gets all the bashing! I broke down last week and picked up a brand new Taurus 745 (45ACP) NIB for $315 from one of my suppliers! For that kind of money it will make a good boat anchor if nothing else. SO, I went to the range last week one afternoon and took it out of the box to fire it! As always, when brand new I drop a couple of drops of gun oil on each side of the slide for good measure! Don't know if it does any good but it does not hurt. I shot one at a time for the first box through and had no misfires or FTEs. It ran fine so I thought I would step it up a little bit. I was double tapping and did so for the next box through it! Ran fine and was pretty darn accurate out of the box. I am going to need to adjust my sighting or tap the sights just a bit to raise the bullet up for 50 feet! It shoots about an inch or so low but does fine at 3, 7, and 10 yards. I was impressed and have torn it down to clean and inspect it after shooting. I still do not know why they get such a bad name but hey, everybody keep bashing them and I will keep buying and shooting them for really cheap prices!!! JMHO!! It is the stubby or short model (Kimber CDP II size - 3 1/2 inch barrel) and I enjoyed shooting it. It will be a very good truck gun and one my grandson can shoot and not hurt. It does not feel and fire as my Kimber does but there is a really wide price gap there!!! LMAO!! I would not expect it to do so. All in all, fun one to shoot and I think I will keep this one. I just like 1911's!!!

Good for you AO, I was going to buy one last speing and everyone of my freinds asked if I was nuts. so I didn't, over the months since then I've heard that their customer service was lacking quite a bit. As far as the guns maybe it's the price that turns prople off. Everyone covets the high priced buggers. Anyway good luck with it and safe shooting.

I have the three Kimbers and a couple of other high priced 45's that I do not like to get out and shoot because they are just that! High priced lovely handguns! I really like the Taurus and do not foresee any need for their customer service just yet but I would bet a dollar to a doughnut they will respond to me if I ever have a problem! I just send it in to customer service and use my law letterhead to jot down a short note. It worked with Taurus in Miami before as a buddy had a Millinneum (sp?) and first time to the range when he had finished firing it it locked up! The slide would not move at all and I would not get a rubber hammer to hit it with it being brand new! I took it and on Monday I sent it priority mail to Taurus in Miami and the tracking number showed it was received Wednesday. I had it back in my office on Friday after lunch and it worked flawlessly from then on. I would challenge any of the other gun manufacturers to top that! Don't tell me the customer service for Taurus sucks! I have the shipping docs to show they do great things!!! Anyway, I enjoy shooting the darn thing. It does not feel the same as the Kimbers but I can buy 4 of them for what one Kimber costs me! I could buy one and a year's worth of ammo? You get the point. It is fun to shoot and inexpensive to buy! If it breaks too bad, I will toss it and get another!

I guess it's nice to have a legal letterhead, it always makes things a little easier as far as getting into some doors. So with that said they still suck because Joe Blo with no letter head gets the shaft. LMAO

Glad to hear you got such a great deal, I don't know anyone who owns a Taurus so I can't post a review.
You surprised me when you said you shot it right out of the box without tearing it down first. I always field strip a new gun and lube it well before I fire it.

A little oil on the slide just to make sure it runs good is all I have ever done with a brand new gun! Seems to have worked so far and I have never had any trouble with new ones. IT never hurts to be extra careful and tear it down to make sure the factory has not screwed up in some way. I have just never felt the need to do it yet. A little oil on the slide I could never not do!

I have to break mine down and wipe the parts off, you would be surprised what machine grit can come out of them sometimes. Not always but once in a while they dont clean up after themselves. After a couple of new gritty triggers, I'll take a boron stone and polish them a little, by doing that you, if you are carefull with the stoning, you can save a couple hundred rounds in the break in process.

It is still a little rough feeling and I am sure it is due to the break in. I will get out and shoot it some more this coming weekend with the grandson so it will be broken in by the end of next week!!! I will have cleaned it at least twice by then!!

We could not get together this afternoon but he will be here for half a day tomorrow and on Xmas day all day long. We will get at least 3 to 4 hundred rounds down range and start some reloading. I am really looking forward to having him shoot some more.

It sounds like a whole lot of fun, it's fun taking wifey to the range, I really enjoy how she focuses. My Sig had a real gritty trigger when I bought it last December, I thought I made a bad move in buying it, but 300 or so rounds it smoothed right out. When I took her out last sunday, I couldn't beleive just how soft and smooth it felt. The trigger feel like 2 or 3 lbs. if that's possible. I was shooting at 45 feet ant they all were in the 9 & 10 ring. I could not beleive my eyes, I was in full control. Now for the Kimber test.

PostSubject: Re: Taurus 745!   Fri Dec 24, 2010 11:48 am

It just so happens that yesterday afternoon I drove over to my local indoor range just to keep my practice schedule up to date and I took my Kimber Ultra CDP w/laser grips because it's my edc but I also took my Dan Wesson VBOB.
I went with the Kimber first and boy I was having a hard time keeping the muzzle down, all of the first two mags were above the horizontal center line by about 2". I know it was my fault because this is the first time I've seen it with this gun and the more I thought about it my guess was that I just wasn't focused enough, it happens a lot to me. Very Happy
Next I pulled out the VBOB, loaded her up and started putting bullets in the same hole over and over, dead center. God I love that gun, it feels so smooth and the trigger is a steady 3.5#.
So I was trying to figure out why there were such different results between these two guns and I think I figured it out-----it might be the sights. The Kimber has the Meprolight night sights and the VBOB has the 10-8 and I've come to really like the 10-8 sights a lot.
Is this a problem for me? I don't think so, it just means I have to increase my range time with my Kimber and that should solve the problem.

Each and every gun shoots differently! Don't care if you get exactly the same model from the same production line. They each feel different and you hit the nail on the head! A little more range time with the Kimber will cure it as you will get more accustomed to exactly what it feels like and how it feels when you shoot it! You are doing fine and keep at it! If you have lost touch with the Kimber and its feel, it will come back after a couple of hundred rounds! I can pick up my 629 4" that I carried for fifteen years on the street and I always shoot lousy with it for the first 50 rounds or so. then it begins to feel like an old worn in glove that I have worn forever!!

How true. Some says you take one gun and only one gun to shoot. I also hear them say watch out for the man that has only one gun. It probably holds true, as it becomes a part of you. I still like taking a couple few handguns with me. I like them all.

Practice-practice-practice. Problem is getting out into the snow and cold. if a car accident doesn't get you the cold will.

I shoot a lot of different pistols. Some revolvers, some semi and some single action! I enjoy shooting the different handguns and rifles a lot. But, whenever it comes to edc, I stick to one pistol, shoot it often and get to the point where it just feels like it is a part of me. An extension of my senses if you will. I know that sounds goofy but if you ever have been to that point with a pistol that you have shot a lot, you will understand that statement. My Kimber at present just happens to be the one that I feel that comfortable with. Just like flying aircraft, when you get a certain number of hours in a particular airplane, you begin to feel what it is doing prior to it showing up on the gauges or actually doing it! Same thing with a handgun, you will get to the point where you feel what it is doing and will be able to anticipate with great accuracy what is going on with it! Practice, practice, practice!! Makes you really good!!!

Yes sir that is exactly right. From muscle memory to just being familiar with a certain peice of machinery. After a while you able to anticipate and love every virtue of it.
